Pettigrew pride

Pettigrew & Sons Casket Co. is founded on the principle of “Personal Service and Fine Caskets” that was in instilled in founder Fay Pettigrew at a very early age. Born in rural Arkansas were there were no funeral homes in the area. Fay grew up watching his father make coffins and help with burials when a death occurred. At age 15 Fay moved to California to work with his brothers at Hollywood Casket Co. where he learned the skills that he has passed on to his family and employees through the years.

Fay moved to Sacramento in 1939 and continued working in the casket business at Capitol City Casket Co. After a short time the owner passed away and the business was closed. Fay and two fellow employees took the opportunity to start their own company. This was a big year for Fay as he also married Althea in September of 1940.

During the next twenty years the business prospered and so did Fay and Althea – adding five children to their family. Fay had the dream of a growing business that would include his family. This was not a dream shared by his partners and eventually the partnership ended. In 1960 Fay and Althea founded Pettigrew & Sons Casket Co.

Over the years all five of Fay and Althea’s children worked in the business. However, only three would remain to make it their lifetime career. Today there are three generations of the family working together to continue the traditions that Fay and Althea established. They include oldest son Jim and his wife Judy and their oldest son Jeff; oldest daughter Barbara her husband Ed and their daughter Dawn; and youngest son Donald.

Today Pettigrew & Sons continues in the tradition of being a full service casket company. Dedicated to providing quality caskets and service.
